The developers, Battlestate Games, always strive for realism in the world of Escape From Tarkov. Not just in the maps and gun play, but also in the economy as well. To add to the immersion of the game they made the decision to tie the value of physical bitcoins in the game to the actual real world value of bit coins.
What Is Bit Coin?
In real life, bitcoin is a digital cryptocurrency currency earned by computing complex mathematical equations to support the network’s infrastructure through the process of block chain technology. The draw of cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin is the fact that they are not controlled or regulated by any central government or authority. The value of bitcoins have grown tremendously recently with a single bitcoin worth over $10,000. As of 2020, it is estimated that the entire market value of bitcoin is $117.81 billion USD.
How Does It Work In Game?
In the world of Escape From Tarkov, bit coins are either found in raid or crafted in your Hideout at the Bitcoin Farm station. These coins represent 0.2 of an actual bitcoin. The value of a bitcoin in game is calculated daily and represented by the amount the trader, Therapist, will buy them from you. Many wonder why Therapist is accumulating so many bitcoins, but it’s best not to ask and be happy with the Roubles earned. To calculate the value of the bitcoin you must be aware that the trader will not pay market value. She imposes a transaction fee ranging up to 30% that is dictated by the developers of the game. When this concept was introduced the in game bitcoin was worth 30% less than in real life. As of the time of this writing, a bit coin can be sold for only 9.6% less than in real life. Lets go through an example.
1 Bit Coin = 800,284 ₽ Roubles
800,284 ₽ X 0.2 X 0.904 = 144,691 ₽
The current real life value of a single bitcoin is 800,283.72 Roubles. Since the game item is 0.2 bitcoin we take 20% of this value to get 160,056.74 Roubles. Then, apply the current trader transaction fee of 9.6% to get an in game bitcoin value of 144,691 Roubles. Pretty cool, huh?
